STREET CAR SUPER NOVA

Paul Guerrera, the same owner of the sleek Mazda Rx-7 Series 4 in this issue, also owned this 1993 Holden Nova. Paul wanted to show us what a daily driven car can look like if the owner uses their head and saves their money for putting towards their show piece. This car was originally chosen as an everyday car because it was cheap on fuel, could fit some friends relatively comfortably, and “did not look too bad”.

As Paul’s Rx-7 was getting built, sprayed, and tuned, he needed a car to drive around, but once the modification bug had bitten, there is not much that you could do to stop the after effects. Paul had some minor head work and inlet/exhaust porting performed on the engine along with a custom cold air intake. A fuel pressure regulator, oil catch can and 2.5inch extractors with exhaust were also added to the engine hardware.

VT Commodore repeaters were added to the sides and the tail lights were tinted. The interior received a few coats of vinyl spray, racing seats with custom rails and 4 Autometer gauges were mounted on the dash.

The car was fitted with many wheel types, but finally settled on a set of 18inch BBOSS Elanora’s with 35 series rubber. Some modifications were needed to the body and spring/shock combo to be able to fit such large wheels under the cars and still keep it low.

The stereo consisted of a Pioneer 7inch touch screen DVD player, Alpine 4inch speakers in the front doors and Clarion 6x9’s and Clarion 6inch speakers on the parcel shelf. 2 x 15inch Clarion subwoofers and finally a Clarion 100watt monoblock amplifier.

Paul says that the modifications that came to this car were from sourcing the cheapest bargains and doing things slowly. This way, he would always have the money when needed to put into his Rx-7.
