HOME MADE MICRA

Being a car owner and being interested in modifying your car has various obstacles. One could be finances, others can be your location or your intent to do most of the work by yourself and even the government poses problems. In the case of Marshall Jones and his 1995 k11 Nissan Micra, the last two seem to be where he is concentrating on. Having done the majority of the work himself, Marshall is on the right path to creating a stand out ride.

The car was originally turbocharged, but since the government poses restrictions on provisional license holders, he has had to remove that engine and replace it with a standard 1.3litre. The previous engine shall be rebuilt and detailed prior to being put back into the car. Currently, the only “performance modification” would have to be his 5 inch exhaust tips.

The body has been altered in the way of custom grills in the bonnet, custom front and rear bumpers, clear indicators and shaved boot lock. This has all been laid over with a few coats of House of Kolor purple with pink flake. 17 inch wheels and lowered springs finish of external aesthetics.

The inside of the car is where Marshall has been concentrating his time and money with a Fusion CA-IP500 headunit, JBL GT5-652 and JBL GT5-402 speakers in the front doors and finally a Pioneer PRS-D1100M amplifier which powers two US Audio subwoofers are located in the boot. The whole custom fibreglass enclosure was built by Marshall himself and has been emphasised by some downlights in the rear hatch lid which shine onto the installation. The front doors also house custom fibreglass pods which hold the quartet of speakers. Again, these were all built by Marshall himself. The boot installation is currently being re-vamped and a follow up feature on this will be in an up-coming issue.

The dash is currently mid way through being built, but as the car is daily driven, the time needed to complete the piece is hard to find. The plan is to customise the dash beyond any recognition with extra gauges and more room for stereo gear and it will be coated in the same light tan vinyl as already used within the car.

Marshall would like to thank his girlfriend Samantha for not only putting up with him and his late nights, but for also helping out when he needs her and his father for allowing him to use his garage and not getting “too upset” when he finds it in a mess. Finally the thanks must go out to his family for helping out and standing behind him in tough times and to www.mobileelectronics.com.au for helping him through the audio build and their constant advice.

Unfortunately Marshall has told us that his workshop buddy and family dog Ralph had passed away recently, and Marshall would like to dedicate the car and the entire build to him and his honour.  As most car builders can understand the late nights in the family garage alongside a family pet, we can all understand how much support they bring to the loneliness that you experience once all other family have long gone to sleep.
