ALL MOTOR PULSARChris Perez says that the reason for purchasing this car was the fact that it is a bold package to start with. We like to think that it is because it is one of the worlds best selling hot hatches and allows for a lot of under-the-bonnet work with its near unbreakable engine. The car is naturally a N14 Nissan Pulsar and at this time is home to one of the most thoroughly modified all-motor SR20DE’s. We say at this time because Chris has a plan to turbo charge the car in the short future in the quest of getting even more power from it. Now with a naturally aspirated motor, it is apparent that the majority of the engine work will be carried out within the internal workings. Chris had obviously decided to open his wallet at the same time as opening his motor as the car is host to many goodies. Hurricane extractors with a 2.5inch mandrel bent exhaust and high flow catalytic converter, as well as a custom made air intake pipe and heat shield help to let the engine breathe. Running such high rpm’s from now on justified the use of an oil catch can to capture all of the blow-by. Finally, a Stinger V4 engine management system was tuned by V&E Rigoli in Sydney. All of these modifications have netted Chris 112kw@wheels which is a large improvement over the standard 95-odd kilowatts at the wheels. In fact, this power figure puts the Pulsar in the area of VTEC power, but with the bonus that Chris does not have to wait until 5000rpm to get to the power band. To hold the power, an Exedy Sports Tuff clutch and rebuilt gearbox has been fitted underneath and to stop the car, DBA slotted front rotors and Bendix GCT brake pads have been added. A GTiR bonnet has been placed on top of the new motor to help with extracting the hot air, as well as getting in the cool air. Rays Racing wheels have been placed under ever corner and measure 15inches in diameter. Behind these wheels, lowered Kings Springs and Monroe GT gas struts help keep the centre of gravity just that bit closer to the tarmac. A GTiR front strut brace is the final piece of the puzzle in terms of suspension modifications. The original owner of this car prior to Chris purchasing it, has helped Chris in fitting air horns, a PA system, white dash faces with blue back lights, Sparco pedals, Isotta steering wheel, thermo fan controller and finally, a water temperature and air fuel gauges are mounted on the dash. To see a video of this car in action at the drag strip Chris would like to mostly thank the previous owner Paully and David at Goodyear Bankstown for all of their help and support along the way. |
